We successfully conducted our first business training this year (2016) in the little green village of Makutano which sits 21 Kilometers from Kitale town.
In a village where people gather in numbers only for important community ceremonies or religious celebrations, this set day, adults from various walks of life whose main occupations are small scale farming and small businesses gathered early in the day to gain more knowledge and experience necessary to scale up their businesses. We were amazed by the huge crowd that turned up despite the short notice given and the fact that it was the first event of its kind in the region.
The over 60 MHC beneficiaries were very enthusiastic about sharing the successes of their ventures and seeking help to deal with the challenges they face. Also in attendance were potential MHC clients whose interests and curiosity in our activities had been roused by the success stories of our loan beneficiaries who are their family, friends, and neighbors. Mr. Vincent Njuguna Kiarie (MD) steered very animated discussions and question and answer sessions with all in attendance.
He covered topics that included:
- Setting and achieving goals
- Credit Management
- Business and market research
- Savings as a lifestyle.
The participants were taken through the named topics in detail and were evidently contented at the end of the training. We at MHC are eager to hold more such sessions with all our beneficiaries and realize measurable impact.
